Sr. Mary Peter is a local who grew up on a dairy farm west of Hillsboro and went to St. Matthew’s School in Hillsboro. She graduated from Hillsboro Union High School and entered the convent in 1975. Sister attended junior colleges in the Monterey and San Francisco areas before receiving her BA in Natural Science from San Jose State University. She continued for another year to receive her California State teaching credential. Sr. Mary Peter continues with her education through the Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio. She is progressing towards a Masters in Theology. She has also received her Science Endorsement for teaching science in grades K-12 with the state of Oregon.
Sister has been teaching the middle school grades at Catholic schools in California before coming to St. Francis School in 2004. She likes teaching and enjoys being in a school atmosphere.
In her free time, Sister Mary Peter likes working in the kitchen, cooking, with breakfast being her favorite meal to prepare. Sister also enjoys yardwork, gardening, and smelt fishing. Her only problem is a common one for all of us, there just isn’t enough time for all of the activities she enjoys doing. However, Sister says she isn’t too worried about that. If something is important, God will make sure that she has the time. Sister Mary Peter says, for her, listening to the Holy Spirit is key.
